Fattorie Isola, Sardegna was born in 2018. Luigi Cuccaru’s goal was to make organic wines, obtained with grapes grown in Sardinia and produced in territories with a strong identity linked to the millennial cultivation of vines on the Sardinian island.

In order to do so the agronomist Luigi Cuccaru sought the help of oenologist Renzo Panetto. The two friends, who have always worked in the wine sector, then decided to start growing organic grapes, moved by the desire to produce in full respect of the land, the farmer and the consumer.

Fattorie Isola is based in Sardinia, Province of Sassari, Municipality of Sorso, Locality of Tres Montes, an area suited for the cultivation of vineyards.

The Romangia (in the northeast of Sardenia) is the region in which Fattorie Isola makes wine. It overlooks the Gulf of Asinara and is predominantly hilly area, with sandy and clayey soils, particularly rich in microelements. Here are located the vineyards of Luigi Cuccaru, in the locality of Tres Montes, which extend for about 8.50 hectares. The good sun exposure and the constant ventilation of the gulf allow is ideal to grow organic grapes.

Here is a little more on their growing methods.

Vermentino cultivar clonal selection, Guyot training system, about 6 buds per plant, manual topping and suckering, absence of irrigation (presence of the system but lack of water resources by the consortium), absence of chemical weeding and chemical fertilization, mechanical processing of the soil to eliminate weeds, green manure is practiced on all rows with sowing of various biological essences (legumes, grasses, cruciferous plants) for the supply of organic nitrogen, balanced C/N ratio and supply of organic matter. Manual harvesting is carried out with sorting of the product in the field, storage of the grape product in boxes in a cold room at 5 degrees Celsius for 4 days.

The approach to wine production is guided by organic regulations and principles, without however neglecting scientific research and the permitted good oenological practices, with the constant aim of obtaining the highest quality wines.

Fattorie Isola uses as little SO2 as possible to ensure the stability and longevity of the wine.
