Fattoria San Lorenzo is a third generation family winery that is completely organic and biodynamic. Enrico Crognaletti was a master cooper who founded the estate, and handed it down to his son Gino, who spent his life filling the vineyards of his estate with the best clones of Verdicchio from around the area.

Gino left the estate to Natalino Crognaletti, who’s been running things ever since. Under Natalino’s guidance, the estate has seen its wines imported to all corners of the globe, and develop become standard bearers for the Marche.

Since 1995 Natalino has made the family estate his.

Natalino is a big personality who’s wines express his spirit for experimentation. His labels express his love for animals. His enthusiasm is the stuff of legend.

Natalino and his mother, Vera Biondini, manage the vineyards which span the communes of Montecarotto, Ostra and Ostra Venere e Corinaldo. Natalino his wife, son and mother all live on the estate in Montecarotto, the place where he was born and raised. They share the farm with dozens of farm animals, for which he names some of his wines.

Montecarotto is about 30 kilometers from the Adriatic. The village is set behind the hills of Poggio San Marcelo. The estate is in the hamlet of San Lorenzo on the banks of the River Esino.

All the vineyards are organically and biodynamically farmed, and are certified organic for wine and olive oil production. All of the farming is done by hand to best preserve the soil, vines and the larger environment.

Natalino is in charge of all vineyard management and wine-making to be sure that his principles of purity are followed completely. His vineyards are only treated with copper and sulphur, never any chemical pesticides.

Natalino maintains his vineyards so that they will not only be hospitable to grapes, but also to the many animals that live with him on the estate. Rabbits and geese inhabit the vineyard and help manage the rows. Peas are planted to lend nitrogen to the soils. The vineyards are like a nature reserve.
